A panel that keeps up with your home

Your electrical panel decides how much power your home, shop or business can safely use. When it’s full, outdated or failing, everything you add gets harder.

Most of our panel jobs are 100 A to 200 A upgrades. A typical upgrade takes about 8 to 9 hours. We pull the permit, arrange the disconnect and reconnect with the power company, swap the panel, and leave the work neat, labelled and to code.

Panel and service work usually comes as one job. A bigger panel often needs a bigger service to feed it, whether that’s an overhead mast and meter base or an underground service. We handle both, along with panel repairs when a replacement isn’t needed.

Signs it’s time for a new panel

  • No room for new breakers
  • Breakers trip or fuses blow often
  • You still have a fuse box
  • An old or recalled panel
  • Your insurer or home inspector flagged it
  • Adding an EV charger, hot tub, heat pump or shop
  • Lights dim when big appliances start
  • A renovation or basement development is planned

Warm panel, burning smell or sparking? Stay clear of the panel. If there’s smoke or fire, call 911.

Buying or selling a home?

An old panel is one of the most common things a home inspection or insurer will flag. If you’re not sure what you’ve got, start with an electrical inspection and we’ll tell you exactly what needs doing.

“I asked CL Electric to move and upgrade my home’s electrical panel to 200A and to also bring the basement plugs up to code. Gaetan LePage did excellent work in a reasonably timely fashion. I endorse his workmanship and work ethic.”

FAQ

Common questions

How long does a 100 A to 200 A panel upgrade take?

A typical 100 A to 200 A upgrade takes about 8 to 9 hours of work. Your power is off while we swap the panel, so we’ll tell you ahead of time when the disconnect is scheduled.

Do you handle the permit and the power company?

Yes. We pull the electrical permit and arrange the disconnect and reconnect with the power company. You don’t have to call anyone.

How do I know if I need a bigger panel?

Common signs are a panel with no room for new breakers, breakers that trip often, an old fuse box, or plans to add a big load like an EV charger, hot tub, heat pump or a detached shop. We can look at what you have and what you want to add, and tell you honestly whether an upgrade is needed.

Can you repair my panel instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. Loose or burnt connections, a failed breaker or a damaged bus can sometimes be repaired. If the panel is old, recalled or out of space, replacing it is usually the better long-term choice. We’ll explain the options and the cost of each.

Do you upgrade overhead and underground services on farms and acreages?

Yes. We upgrade overhead services (mast, meter base and service entrance) and underground services for homes, farms and acreages around Saskatoon, including yard sites fed from a yard pole.

Are estimates free?

Yes. We can usually give you a ballpark the same day. If you need a full written quote on paper, that takes about a week.
